A roundup of events in the region this weekend commemorating Memorial Day

Sunday

7 a.m. – Vietnam Veterans of America, Sacramento Valley Chapter 500, will hold the 15th Annual “Reading of the Names” at Capitol Park, 15th and L streets, Sacramento. A ceremony honoring veterans begins at noon.

Monday

8:45 a.m. Veterans of Foreign Wars Chung Mei Post and American Legion Gung Ho Post hold a wreath laying and honors at Sacramento Chinatown Mall, between I & J streets and 3rd and 5th streets, Sacramento. Free refreshment will follow event at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

9 a.m. – A ceremony with speakers, aircraft flyovers, wreath laying and a white dove release is at New Auburn Cemetery, War Memorial, 1040 Collins Drive, Auburn.

9 a.m. – A Memorial Day commemoration is at Freedom’s Field at Green Valley Cemetery, Green Valley and Bass Lake roads, Cameron Park.

9 a.m. – A Memorial Day program featuring U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West is at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.

9-10:30 a.m. – A Memorial Day ceremony is at Del Oro High School, 3301 Taylor Road, Loomis.

10 a.m. – A Memorial Day ceremony with wreath laying and honors is at Old Auburn Cemetery, 170 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn.

10 a.m. – Rancho Cordova’s eighth annual Memorial Day ceremony featuring music, speakers and commemorative bricks dedicated to local men and women of the armed forces is at Sacramento VA Medical Center Memorial Plaza, 10535 Hospital Way, Mather.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. – A Memorial Day remembrance is at Earl J. Koobs Nature Center, 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael. Colors will be presented at 11 a.m.

10:30 a.m. – American Legion Citrus Heights Post 637 presents a Memorial Day observance with a procession of veterans and includes speakers and music at Sylvan Cemetery, 7401 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights.

11 a.m.-noon – American Legion Alyn W. Bulter Post 169 and Roseville Veterans of Foreign Wars 1487 will hold a ceremony with speaker and music at Roseville Public Cemetery District, 421 Berry St., Roseville. A lunch follows at Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall, 110 Park Drive.

11 a.m. – The Friends of the Veterans Monument presents a ceremony with speakers, music and a 21-gun salute at The El Dorado County Veterans Monument, 360 Fair Lane, Placerville.

11 a.m. – A Memorial Day ceremony with wreath laying and honors is at Newcastle Cemetery, 820 Taylor Road, Newcastle.

11 a.m. - Folsom Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony is at Lakeside Cemetery, Folsom Boulevard and Forrest Street, Folsom .

Noon – A Memorial Day ceremony with wreath laying and honors is at Maidu Indian Burial Ground, Maidu Road and Wildwood Drive, Auburn.

3 p.m. – Atria El Camino Gardens honors its 72 veterans and those who have fallen in an observance at 2426 Garfield Ave., Carmichael.
