Here’s a combination that’s hard to pass up: Shop for fresh locally grown produce — and have time to smell the roses, too.
McKinley Park hosts Sacramento’s newest weekly certified farmers market. It officially debuted May 17 and will become a summer Saturday morning fixture at the park. Featuring locally grown organic produce and other foods, the market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at 35th Street and Park Way near the Shepard Garden and Arts Center.
According to organizer Ann Vuletich Clark, the market will offer organic produce, bread, coffee, meat and fish, fresh pasta and more from certified producers and vendors. “Certified” means that these vendors met standards set by the Sacramento County agricultural commissioner.
This new market features several well-known local vendors and producers. ESFM posted several of its vendors on its Facebook page. Among them: Rio de Parras Organics, Loving Nature Farm, Dragon Mushrooms, Simply Manna Mushrooms, Aoyama Farms, Saechao Farms, Hearty Fork Farm, Penrod Farms (honey and rabbit meat), Carmen’s Pralines, Coffee Pot Ranch (meat and poultry), Freshway Fish, K.C. Flowers, Upper Crust Baking Company, Chocolate Fish Coffee, The Pasta Queen, Nutty Chicks Granola, Liquidology Bar, Mama Satva Ghee and Whatspopponkettlekorn.
While at McKinley Park, wonder over to H Street and enjoy the Memorial Rose Garden. It’s now in full bloom with more than 1,200 bushes and a walk through the garden is a free bonus to this market day.
