Yuba City plans a large downtown viewing party when Triple Crown hopeful California Chrome runs in the Belmont Stakes.
The winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness is co-owned by Denise and Perry Martin of Yuba City and Steve and Carolyn Coburn of Topaz Lake, Nev.
The viewing party is planned for Plumas Street in Yuba City’s downtown district. The event takes place June 7 from noon to 7 p.m.
The Belmont begins at 3:18 p.m. that Saturday.
The outdoor event is planned for Plumas Street from just south of Church Street to Scott Street. Street closures begin at 10 a.m. and run through 8 p.m.
A large viewing screen will be positioned at the north end of the event near Church and Plumas streets and another toward the south end near Center and Plumas streets.
The Martins, both in their 50s, are first-time horse breeders who were part of a group that purchased California Chrome’s mother for just $8,000.
The Martins work at their business, Martin Testing Laboratories at McClellan. After the base was shuttered in 2001, the couple bought a testing facility to test metals, polymers, composites and finished products for strength, safety and durability.
