Two get life sentence for meth-deal robbery murder

Published: Friday, May. 23, 2014 - 11:37 am

Two people were sentenced today to life in prison with no chance of parole for a 2011 drug-deal robbery murder.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Ernest W. Sawtelle handed down the terms to Lionel Humberto Doria, now 38, and Cleo Martinez-Costa, 50, for the Nov. 25, 2011, shooting death of James Hiter, 46, in the 700 block of Bell Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area.

According to the defendants’ probation reports, Martinez-Costa lured Hiter – a reputed methamphetamine dealer – to her residence to make a buy. When Hiter got there around 3:50 a.m., Doria demanded everything he had and shot him to death, the reports said. Hiter reportedly was carrying $4,000 cash at the time, according to the reports.

Sawtelle sentenced Doria to an added 25-to-life term for his use of the firearm.
