Regional digest: Sac State will play for WAC baseball title

Sacramento State defeated Cal State Bakersfield 3-1 and Utah Valley 10-3 on Saturday to reach the final of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament in Mesa, Ariz., according to the WAC’s website.

The Hornets will play Utah Valley again today at noon for the title.

Justin Dillon allowed one run in seven innings against Bakersfield. Scotty Burcham had two hits and an RBI, and Will Soto and Rhys Hoskins each hit solo home runs for Sac State.

The Hornets’ Chris Lewis went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs against Utah Valley.

• Nick Lynch had two hits and two RBIs as host UC Davis (23-31, 7-17 Big West Conference) ended its season with a 6-3 loss to UC Santa Barbara (34-17-1, 12-12), which swept the three-game series, UCD reported.


Anderson wins 1,500 in NCAAs

Courtney Anderson, from Folsom High School and Stanislaus State, won the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 23.33 seconds at the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships in Allendale, Mich.

Anderson also finished fourth in the 5,000.
