The Sacramento County jail inmate who hanged himself Sunday was accused of stabbing two women at a Valley Hi home nearly a year ago.
The Sacramento County Coroners office identified the inmate as Khounlat Sihabout, 35, of Sacramento Monday. He was pronounced dead at 10:25 a.m. Sunday at the jail.
On June 9, 2013, Sihabout was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife and his sister. Police said that he had been separated from his wife and became jealous. He allegedly brought his wife into a room at the Valley Hi home and began to assault her. When his sister intervened, he stabbed both women.
Sihabout had been held at the Sacramento County Jail since that day on several charges, including attempted murder, child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon.
About 10 a.m. Sunday, deputies found Sihabout dead in his cell. He had hanged himself with a blanket. Since he was placed in a total isolation unit, deputies checked on him every hour. He was last seen alive at 9:04 a.m. Sunday. His death is being investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriffs Office.
