Re "New spin on shop class mixes academics" (Viewpoints, May 27): It was so refreshing to read Bruce Maiman's article about mixing academics and work experience in the Elk Grove School District. It's not exactly a new idea but one which seems to work well. Linked Learning mixes strong academics with workplace experience giving students better preparation to take their place in the economics of the 21st century.
The legislature has even allocated $250 million to expand these tech schools and link them with the business community. Linked Learning makes so much sense to me. I hope it catches on in other districts soon.
