The Internet has been abuzz with reports the Kings are interested in acquiring All-Star power forward Kevin Love from Minnesota.
Of course they are – and so are the other 28 NBA teams.
Nearly every team would love to acquire Love, but the Timberwolves will expect equal value in return. Love reportedly has told them he will become an unrestricted free agent after next season and has no interest in re-signing.
It’s likely nearly every team already has contacted the Timberwolves to discuss possible deals, and it’s a smart move by the Kings to leak they are interested, too. It shows the fans they will do whatever is necessary to turn the team into a winner.
The Kings reportedly would be willing to give up the No. 8 pick in the draft and a combination of players, but would the Timberwolves be interested in that pick or any package that doesn’t include center DeMarcus Cousins? It’s unlikely Minnesota would be interested in anyone else on the Kings’ roster.
With the explosive growth of Internet sites and blogs devoted to the NBA, reports based on “sources” pop up constantly, especially leading up to the draft.
It certainly would be great news for Kings fans if the team could land Love, especially if they could play Love and Cousins together.
It’s just not very likely.
