“Course report” has run its course

The “Course Report” has gone the way of the 2-iron – really useful in its day but not so relevant anymore.

As such, the weekly update of the latest in area course conditions and bargains that has run weekly in The Bee for 11 years is being retired.

Sacramento courses weren’t so consistently well-maintained and their operators weren’t as forthcoming with information pertaining to missteps a decade ago, which is why the consumer-friendly report card of sorts was launched. In today’s ultra-competitive golf market, superintendents can’t afford to let things slip and the pro shop can’t afford to alienate anyone with anything less than full disclosure for fear of losing a customer forever, so the weekly reports became increasingly generic.

Particularly newsworthy course-condition information will still have a place on the weekly golf page, and greens aerification schedules each spring and fall will still be published, but no more weekly minutiae.

It was a good run. The “posse” is free to roam.
