North wind prompts fire warning in Sacramento region

Published: Wednesday, May. 28, 2014 - 6:28 am

Dry north winds are expected to increase fire danger in the Sacramento region.

Cooler temperatures are expected but the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the length of the Central Valley due to expected low humidity, winds gusting into the 20s and already dry grassland.

A red flag warning means that weather conditions are prompting critical concerns about the possibility of fast-moving fire.

As a trough of low pressure shifts east, the breezy north to northwest winds are predicted to spread through the morning from the north end of the valley southward. Winds are expected to diminish some on Thursday in the Sacramento region.

The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento are from the NWS:

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 84. North northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. North northwest wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
