CalFire officials have asked the California Highway Patrol to investigate claims that a former battalion chief now accused of murder and other firefighters had sex with prostitutes at the Ione Fire Academy, according to authorities.
There is no indication thus far that the claims, made by Orville Fleming’s estranged wife, are true, said Daniel Berlant, spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. But officials asked the CHP to look into them “because of the seriousness of those allegations and because of the possible illegal nature of them,” Berlant said.
CalFire officials fired Fleming, 55, after he failed to show up for work during the 16 days he was on the lam before being arrested May 16. He is accused of killing his live-in girlfriend, 26-year-old Sarah June Douglas, May 1.
Fleming’s wife, Meagan Fleming, told KXTV in Sacramento that she had seen evidence that Fleming and other firefighters had sex with prostitutes, as well as a video of Douglas having sex with firefighters on firetrucks.
Authorities previously said Douglas worked as a paid escort when she met Fleming two years ago.
