Democrats plan massive ad campaign for House candidates

Published: Thursday, May. 29, 2014 - 6:45 am

Democrats Thursday said they’re planning a nearly $44 million ad campaign this fall in 36 battleground House districts, an unusually large commitment from a political party.

Republicans have a solid majority in the House, and are expected to maintain it in November. But Democrats vow to fight, and according to data obtained by Associated Press, the party will use the funds in 19 districts with Democratic incumbents and in 17 districts now held by Republicans.

Among the costliest races, AP reported, is in the Washington area, where veteran Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., is retiring.

Democrats have thus far been more successful with their fundraising; at the end of last month, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had $43.5 million on hand. Republicans’ House committee has about $32 million.
