Fix50 traffic flow improves this evening as commuters adapt to westbound lane closures

Sacramento-area commuters appear to be adjusting to the latest phase of the Fix50 project.

On the third day of westbound lane closures, Highway 50 motorists were experiencing delays of about 15 minutes, said Deanna Shoopman, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation. That’s down from about 30 minutes on Tuesday, the first day of work on the westbound portion of the freeway between 18th and 24th streets through downtown Sacramento.

Shoopman said traffic flow had improved for both the morning and evening commutes as more people opted for alternate routes or modes of transportation.

“As long as there are no collisions, we’re doing good,” Shoopman said.
