The Adamo family intends to open an American-Italian restaurant on P Street near 21st in Sacramento.

Restaurant works to open on P Street

A vacant building in the 2100 block of Sacramento’s P Street is cooking up to be a spot for American-Italian cuisine.

Adamo’s, a family restaurant slated to open its doors in June, will serve a variety of foods from chicken wings and pasta to burgers and sandwiches for lunch, said Kiara Adamo, whose father owns the property.

Beers from local breweries will fill the taps, said Audrey DiMichele, who’s helped plan the new restaurant and who will work as a chef.

“We’ll also have the cheap $2 beer that every midtown restaurant needs,” Adamo said.

Adamo and her brother run Midtown Laundry next door, which she describes as having a “ ‘Cheers’ environment that we wanted to carry over here.”

An Old Sacramento feel inspires the restaurant’s industrial metal light fixtures and red brick walls, which could display local art. The spot was home to Cafe Au Lait, a coffee shop that struggled and closed its doors at the end of February before the lease was up.

Adamo saw the vacancy as an opportunity to provide a new restaurant experience for its neighbors. “We take a lot of pride in this little building,” she said. “We want to see this part of the neighborhood expand and keep moving forward.”

The restaurant will only serve lunch and dinner starting out, with a Sunday brunch planned for the future.
