Re "U.S. soldier freed in Taliban prisoner swap" (Page A1, June 1): President Obama believes he is above the law. In 2010, Democrats passed a law stating that detainees at Guantanamo Bay could not be released or transferred without giving Congress 30-day notice and without sign-off from the Secretary of Defense.
In trading five Taliban commanders for a captured American soldier, the president has broken that law. While I applaud the return of a captured American serviceman, it is alarming that this president continues to snub his nose at the rule of law.
I want to make a plea to The Bee's readers, most of whom are probably Democrats. Please take back your party. This Democratic Party is not the party of John F. Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey or Scoop Jackson. The leaders of today's Democratic Party are leftist revolutionaries, having more in common with Karl Marx than JFK.
For the sake of the country, please take your party back.
