Has California heard of credit cards?

I recently parked across from the Secretary of State building. When I returned that afternoon, I was told the garage would not accept credit cards or checks. Thus I asked, "What should I do?"

"You can send us a check when you get home," the attendant said.

I broke out laughing at the insanity of this solution.

Later when I talked to Tigest Belay, General Manager of Central Parking, who operates the garage, explained the reason for no credit cards or checks is this parking garage is owned by the state. I should have known it was a government-owned garage to have such a stupid policy. Belay said the check I mailed them has to be converted by her company to be paid to the state. Incredible waste but a clue to how our government runs.

I also recommend better signage for dummies like me.
