Re "Isla Vista, Californa laws fail mentally ill" (Editoral, May 27): State laws do nothing to prevent a mentally ill person from buying a gun. If the Department of Justice was doing their job, maybe fewer mentally ill people would get a gun.
Our laws need to be enforced by professional health care people, it is not the job of police to determine this. If the stigma of mental illness is removed, then maybe more people would get their children to professionals. How long are we going to blame an object for killing when it is people who do this?
I don't believe we need stricter gun laws, just enforce the ones we have. Lock people up and get them the help they need before these awful tragedies happen. We have way to many people who are mentally ill, and we just let them be. No help, no supervision. It's a shame in this day and age.
