Sacramento’s first 100-degree day of the year is forecast for Saturday.

Warmer temperatures start Wednesday with a high of 95 degrees forecast for Sacramento as the Delta breeze fades away. The high on Tuesday, when more onshore flow was present, was a more pleasant 88.

Temperatures on both weekend days are expected to reach the century mark in Sacramento. The maximum temperatures in the mountains and foothills are forecast to be in the 80s and 90s, according to the National Weather Service.

The cause for the abnormally high temperatures is a familiar meteorological condition: high pressure building over the west coast.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 60. West northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable.
