Sacramento police say they are investigating the possibility that drug use played a factor in an apparent murder-suicide in a South Natomas apartment this afternoon.

Officers responded to the Natomas Ridge apartments at West El Camino and Azevedo Drive after receiving multiple calls of shots fired in the area about 2 p.m., said police Officer Doug Morse.

They found two men dead of gunshot wounds inside a downstairs unit of the large complex. One of them appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted injury, Morse said.

Detectives were looking into the possibility that the shootings were prompted by drug use by one or both of the men. He said he could not elaborate.

Morse said the men were acquaintances and that their deaths are not being investigated as incidents of domestic violence. The men have not been officially identified, but they appear to have been in their 30s, Morse said.
