The Dark Ages

Re "Events may fuel change for women" (Joyce Terhaar, June 1): I too hope this conversation will stay alive. I am a survivor of domestic violence and I became an victims' advocate because I was treated horribly by the district attorney's office that handled my case. I was looked down upon by other women and the perpetrator was treated as if he were the victim. I applied to work as an advocate in the same office where my case was declined, and again treated as less than human. I was ridiculed in the interview for having a masters in counseling and speaking three languages. Other advocates looked down at me. Other women asked why I let him abuse me, and why did I. As, an advocate I saw this all the time. The attorneys, police, doctors, peers all blaming the victims. Domestic violence is huge, but women get no support.
