Re "Process used to overturn marriage laws is a retreat for democracy" (Another View, June 1): It is amazing to me that The Bee actually allowed this article in your newspaper. Your disdain for persons who disagree with your point of view on gay marriage is so blatant that I have a hard time getting through most articles that The Bee publishes on the subject. However, you finally have published an article that does not distort the issue.
Margaret Bengs is right. Democracy has been trampled on in the appeal process for Proposition 8. Our elected officials should not be permitted to pick and choose which laws they will defend. This judicial process in appealing Proposition 8 has made a travesty of our whole political system, and it is a frightening omen for the future of California.
