Re "Chrome"s history bid dies" (Page A1, June 8): California Chrome should be the Triple Crown winner, all things being equal. The problem is that all things weren't equal.
In order for a horse to win the Triple Crown, they have to race all three races. There were several horses in the Belmont that didn't race the other two races, including the horse that stepped on Chrome's foot. This horse was hardly raced previous to the Belmont with little experience on the track or coming out of the gate.
Of the top three horses finishing the race, two didn't race in the first two races of the series, one raced in one leg of the series. I'm sorry but that is plain wrong. If a horse doesn't qualify for the Derby, they can't race in the other two races. It's what's right.
All thing being equal, Chrome wins.
