Missing Placerville teen found in San Francisco

Published: Monday, Jun. 9, 2014 - 10:42 am

The search for a 16-year-old girl who went missing last week from a Placerville residential care facility has ended after she was found at a San Francisco coffee shop.

Amy Richards was considered at-risk due to health conditions. El Dorado County Sheriff's officials said she was recently hospitalized for treatment of severe anorexia, and suffers from anxiety and depression.

Richards was last seen at a group home facility at 2 a.m. Tuesday. It is not known what time she left because she had stuffed her bed to make it appear she was still in bed asleep. She left a note saying that she had planned to leave and that she would be safe, but she had no money and no cell phone.

Sheriff's officials received possible sightings of Richards in a wide range of areas.

The sheriff’s office reported Monday that she was found Sunday in San Francisco. She used a bicycle to travel to Sacramento and eventually made her way to BART mass transit to get to San Francisco.

She asked employees of a Starbucks in San Francisco for medical help. The Starbucks staff called emergency medical personnel who took her to a hospital.

Her condition on Monday was not known, according to a sheriff’s department press release.
