Ask Sacto 911 crime Q&A: What was cause of recent law enforcement activity in Antelope?

Published: Monday, Jun. 9, 2014 - 9:53 pm

On May 31, in the afternoon into the evening, there were multiple sirens, a helicopter and an airplane circling for about four hours or more over the area of Elverta Road between Watt Avenue and Northam in Antelope. I just want to know what this was all about – robbery, accident, assault?

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in its watch summary reports an incident at 8:26 p.m. May 31 in the 3600 block of Elverta Road that began when deputies saw a motorcyclist riding without a helmet, who then ran a stoplight.

Deputies activated their patrol vehicles’ overhead lights and sirens. The motorcyclist did not stop, but instead led deputies on a 16-minute pursuit before abandoning the motorcycle and running off on foot.

Witnesses and officers in a California Highway Patrol helicopter reported seeing the suspect flee to an apartment complex. Deputies contacted an individual in front of the apartment area where witnesses placed the suspect, and a probation search was conducted.

A stolen firearm was found, along with an empty handgun magazine and the drug Ecstasy, according to the watch summary. Deputies also reported finding hundreds of credit cards and debit cards, two card reader machines and a card press.

Neither the person to whom the apartment was leased nor the motorcyclist was located.
