Re "Curtis Park residents aim to keep chain stores out of neighborhood" (City Beat, June 9): Kudos to Ryan Lillis for drawing attention to our petition to limit big-box retail stores in Curtis Park, but I'm afraid he missed the major thrust of months of diligent work with neighbors and local businesses.
The Curtis Park Character Advocates is not motivated by an interest in a grand mix-up with developer Paul Petrovich but most interested in a program of buying local and supporting small, entrepreneurial businesses in the neighborhood. That is clear from our petition, which now approaches 300 signers. Why was nothing mentioned about our primary interest and continuing work to encourage small, independent businesses along Curtis Park's major commercial thoroughfares of Broadway, Freeport Boulevard, Sutterville Road and Franklin Boulevard?
Those who care about the future of Curtis Park development can go to the link to the petition in Lillis' article for more information on "the missing elephant."
