After a smashing of the Sacramento record for the hottest June 9 on Monday, a slight cool down is predicted for Tuesday before the Delta breeze really picks up on Wednesday.

The high temperature was 106 degrees in Sacramento on Monday, obliterating the previous maximum temperature record of 102 set in 1986. A high of 98 is expected Tuesday in Sacramento.

Temperatures are a little cooler this morning with valley readings in the 60s, according to the National Weather Service.

An exception to that slight cooling trend is occurring at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley where breezy north winds are locking morning temperatures in at around 80 degrees.

Strong high pressure will remain over Northern California Tuesday, which guarantees another hot day. However, satellite imagery is showing the development of a marine layer along the coast.

That means, instead of 106, the high Tuesday in Sacramento could come in at a couple of degrees under the century mark. And more substantial cooling, courtesy of the Delta breeze and increased onshore flow, is expected to occur Tuesday night when the high pressure system weakens.

Look for highs in the upper 80s in Sacramento starting on Wednesday, according to the NWS.
