Forward Rudy Gay arrived in Sacramento Tuesday afternoon to meet with the Kings, who are hoping to convince Gay to stay with the team beyond this season.

Gay has a player option for next season that would pay him $19.3 million. Gay could decline the option and become an unrestricted free agent.

Gay was greeted after he arrived on a private jet by Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro and coach Michael Malone before being escorted to an awaiting SUV where fans were waiting to greet Gay.

Gay posed for pictures and said “Thanks y’all for coming out” to the the 50 or so fans gathered near the vehicle.

“We’re just going to go back and have a nice afternoon with him, some dinner with him in a relaxed, casual way,” D’Alessandro said. “And let him know we want him here.”

After coming to the Kings in a trade with Toronto, Gay averaged 20.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 48.2 percent in 55 games.
