Re "Labels aren't a cure-all" (Letters, June 10): This is in response to the letter by registered dietitian LeeAnn Weintraub concerning the proposed law to label sugary beverages. I am also an R.D.
While the evidence is mixed, there is recent research at Oklahoma State University that indicates calorie labels did have a positive effect on choices made, especially in the group of people identified as least health conscious. Also, restaurants that have been forced to disclose calories sometimes end up changing their menues to offer healthier options.
Personally, I prefer to have the most information possible to make choices.
