The temperature at Sacramento Executive Airport topped out at 103 degrees, tying the previous record for the date set in 1994.
Then between about 4 and 7 p.m., the mercury dropped 23 degrees as the Delta breeze swept back into the Sacramento region.
“The last several days, we have not had the onshore flow,” said Drew Peterson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “Now we have a favorable setting for the Delta breeze and we get that cooler marine air.” After a high of 106 degrees Monday in downtown Sacramento, a high of 86 degrees is forecast for today, Peterson said.
Cooler temperatures are expected to hold through Friday with highs in the mid-80s and overnight lows in the upper 50s. Temperatures in the Sacramento area are expected to edge back up to about 90 degrees by Saturday.
