Re Stockton Asparagus Festival calls it quits after 29 years" (Food & Drink, June 10): One thing I noticed when I attended the Asparagus Festival is the number of EMTs and police present. Perhaps the organizers should ask these folks to volunteer their time for the good of the community, rather than expecting the city to pay all or a part of the cost.
This year's version also had a slimmed down version of what was available. Less food options, fewer vendors and poor attractions, which would explain some of the attendance shortfall. Given the food to fork push, perhaps we should have more active participation from the local Stockton restaurants.
