Sacramento County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the killing of a middle-aged man at a Rio Linda home late Sunday night.

Deputies were called to the house in the 100 block of Dolphin Way about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Once there, they found a 54-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home.

He was hurried to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to piece together exactly what led up to the shooting. Law enforcement chaplains have responded to comfort family at the home.

Detectives have not identified a motive or a shooter; however, they do not believe anyone in the family is responsible, said sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Bowman.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s office has not yet released the name of the victim.
