Rocklin-based Purple Communications Inc., a provider of communications services and products for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, has appointed telecommunications industry veteran Robert Rae as its new president.

The company said Rae has 23 years of experience leading companies in telecommunications, digital marketing and online education.

“We continue to invest heavily in our expansion efforts, both in terms of technology development and human resources, and I am confident that Bob’s expertise will continue to facilitate growth in all aspects of our service portfolio, including video relay service, video remote interpreting and text relay and captioning services,” said company CEO John Ferron.

Prior to joining Purple, Rae served as president and chief operating officer for Dallas-based Academic Partnerships, which works with universities to facilitate online education and college degrees. He has also served at the executive level of multiple companies and is a holder of a dozen patents.

“I am looking forward to building on Purple’s rich history of innovations, such as being the first (video relay service) provider to make it possible for deaf individuals to use everyday platforms like computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones for video relay services,” Rae said.
