Jury convicts woman in shooting death of roommate

Published: Tuesday, Jun. 17, 2014 - 4:18 pm

A Sacramento Superior Court jury Tuesday convicted Linda Gabaldon of first-degree murder in the April 23, 2013, shooting death of her roommate Rebecca Brau in the south area home they shared.

Judge Sharon A. Lueras scheduled the sentencing on Gabaldon, 46, for July 18. Gabaldon is facing a term of 50 years to life in prison – 25 years on the murder conviction and another 25 years for her use of a firearm in the fatal shooting.

Gabaldon, who has served prison sentences on prior convictions for robbery and for battery on a state correctional officer, moved in with Brau when she was paroled eight months before the shooting. Authorities said the shooting resulted from a teasing remark Brau made to Gabaldon.
