A special election will be held Sept. 9 to fill a seat on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors.

The board Tuesday adopted a resolution setting the special election to fill the District 2 seat previously held by Ray Nutting.

A judge declared that Nutting must forfeit his elected office because of misdemeanor convictions over how he raised bail money following his arrest last year on felony charges of political malfeasance. He was acquitted of the felony charges, but the judge determined the misdemeanor offenses constituted “misconduct in office” and declared Nutting’s seat vacant June 6.

The nomination period for candidates will begin June 30 and conclude July 18, according to the county Elections Department.

District 2 includes much of southern El Dorado County, including the communities of Latrobe, Mount Aukum, Fairplay, Outingdale, Somerset, Grizzly Flat and portions of El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park and Shingle Springs.
