Re "Head Start, fast rail are losers" (Letters, June 17): A logical question was asked about the planned high-speed rail: "How will the train get over the mountains to Los Angeles?" The answer is, it won't, at least not in my lifetime and possibly not even in the lifetimes of my kids. The governor and his supporters have scraped up only enough money to get the project started and build a couple hundred miles. After that, it will sit unfinished for lack of funding, using up fertile agricultural land, putting family farms out of business and causing an eyesore through the Central Valley.
However, Jerry will have his name on it and he won't have to look at it. That's what matters, right?
