Expect an unusual lunchtime traffic jam around the State Capitol this afternoon. No, its not another detour for Fix50; its a NASCAR hauler parade.
For the fourth consecutive year, more than 30 NASCAR Sprint Cup haulers will rumble through downtown Sacramento on their way to Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Sundays race is the only Northern California stop for NASCARs top series.
Todays parade takes a slightly different course than past years and will be two hours earlier than past processions. The haulers expected for the parade will be carrying the cars of drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and other stars. Today also is officially NASCAR Day in Sacramento.
Starting at noon, the haulers will leave their parade staging-area near Raley Field and cross the Tower Bridge. Instead of staying on Capitol Mall, the trucks will turn right on Third Street, then left on N Street. Theyll turn left on 16th Street and left again on L Street before heading to Interstate 80 en route to Sonoma Raceway.
Fans can get the best view of the parade at the corner of L and 11th streets, where Sonoma Raceway will host a gathering with Miss Sprint Cup, the Raceway Girls, giveaways and ticket sales.
