A caretaker working at an Auburn residential recovery center has been arrested after allegedly using a resident’s bank card to make purchases at local stores.

Amanda Marie Sinnott, 29, of Placerville was taken into custody Wednesday after her activity was caught on store surveillance, according to a Placer County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sinnott was an employee at Westview Healthcare in north Auburn when the 69-year-old victim discovered his bank card missing and that about $1,300 had been deducted form his account by two Auburn stores.

After the man contacted the Sheriff’s Office, deputies viewed the store video and showed the woman’s photo to her employer. Sinnott was interviewed when she returned to work. Sheriff’s officials said she was cooperative.

Sinnott was booked into Placer County Jail on suspicion of burglary, committing a financial crime against the elderly, fraudulent use of a bank access card and possession of stolen property. She remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail.
