Federal indictment charges Sutter County woman with filing false tax returns

Published: Friday, Jun. 20, 2014 - 6:28 pm

A federal grand jury has returned a four-count indictment charging a Sutter County woman with making and subscribing false tax returns.

The indictment says Jacquline Hoegel, 57, of Pleasant Grove filed her personal income tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 on the same day in September 2009. Those returns substantially understated her gross receipts and falsely stated that she was a graphic designer during the relevant tax years, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.

Hoegel, who is not in custody, is expected to appear in federal court for arraignment July 17 before Magistrate Judge Carolyn K. Delaney.

The case resulted from an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations.
