Is there an update on the alleged murder in Antelope where the son called 911?

– Sacsun, Antelope

John David Matta, 53, is being held without bail in Sacramento County Jail, accused of murder in the death of his mother, 75-year-old Janet M. Matta.

According to stories in The Bee, the Sheriff’s Department’s communications center received a call from the home in the 8000 block of Silk Tree Way in Antelope about 4:45 p.m. May 18. A man on the other end of the line said he had “an altercation” with his mother and then dispatchers were disconnected.

When deputies arrived at the home, they found Janet Matta dead inside the residence. The cause of death had not been determined, according to the Sheriff’s Department, but John Matta was the only other person living in the home. He was arrested on suspicion of murder.

According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, he was arraigned May 20. His next court date, a settlement conference, is scheduled for July 18.
