Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:
Summer heat: Today is expected to be much like Monday, except there will be a bit of a breeze in the afternoon. The high today is forecast to come in at a hot 94 degrees in Sacramento. Then, the weather gods grant us two days of 80-degree weather. Still, that won’t last long. Friday begins a warm-up that may peak Monday at 103 degrees.
Come to Sacramento: Sacramento business executives are launching an organization aimed at recruiting and keeping companies in the region. The fledgling Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council has $1.5 million so far. Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization, the region’s longstanding economic development group, says there’s room for another recruitment effort. Details here.
Cats on the trail: How does a mountain lion get from the rural foothills to Oak Park? Not on light rail. Experts presume the animal that roamed city streets on Saturday made its way to the central city via the American River Parkway. But urbanites shouldn’t be alarmed. “I think this was an aberration, not a trend,” said Lynn Cullens, associate director of the Mountain Lion Foundation. Read more here.
Cash on the trail? There are already reports of winning scavengers as the Hidden Cash crew made its way to Sacramento, stealthily placing envelopes with $70 to $100 each in the capital city. @HiddenCash tweeted last night to its 640,000 followers: “First clue: Fill in the blanks for time and place: FAT_ _BIRD _ NEST.” More details here.
Cash for lawyers: Sacramento development officials will ask the City Council to set aside $750,000 for past and future costs related to arena litigation. Attorneys Patrick Soluri and Jeffrey Anderson filed suit last year on behalf of three residents, accusing the city of fraud and seeking to block construction. Details here.
Honoring leaders: The PRIDE awards, which recognize Sacramento leaders for community service and leadership, will take place at 5:30 p.m. today at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento, 1209 L St. The event includes a no-host bar, appetizers and the awards presentation. Event proceeds support the Sacramento LGBT Community Center. Tickets are $60 at the door.
