The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has selected a deputy to concentrate on chronic crime in the north Auburn area, including problems involving the homeless.
Deputy Ryan Zender was selected as the new problem-oriented policing deputy, a position created to deal with a range of problems in north Auburn. Zender’s work will include dealing with homeless and related issues in the area, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Zender has worked closely with the homeless population while a patrol deputy. The POP assignment will give him more time to focus on homeless issues and build partnerships with the public and business community.
Zender, a nine-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, will work closely with the Auburn Police Department, Placer County, children’s services, the District Attorney’s Office, the probation department and state parole agents.
