Abnormally cool temperatures and gusty winds will be the order of the day on Thursday as the Sacramento region feels the affects of a Gulf of Alaska low pressure system.

The high today is expected to be 83 degrees, quite a bit cooler than the average for late June, which is 90 degrees. The National Weather Service also predicts that winds will blow from the south at around 12 mph, gusting to 23 mph.

A few sprinkles fell in Sacramento on Wednesday, but not enough precipitation could be wrung from the clouds to move the rain gauge. The Sacramento precipitation total for the rainfall year that ends Monday is 10.35 inches, which is 51 percent of normal.

A warming trend begins Friday with temperatures climbing into the high 80s. By Monday, building high pressure could shoot daytime highs in the Sacramento area above 100 degrees.
