The Sacramento Police Department will set up a sobriety and drivers license checkpoint Friday on 21st Street near Capital Avenue.

The checkpoint will begin at 7:30 p.m. and run for five to seven hours, according to a press release.

Police will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment as well as a proper drivers license and, when possible, specially trained officers will evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, according to the press release.

Police warn that impaired drivers can expect a DUI arrest, jail time, DUI classes, fines and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides the funding for this checkpoint.
