UPDATE: Three-alarm Stockton Boulevard fire burns two houses, vehicles at auto repair shop

Published: Thursday, Jun. 26, 2014 - 11:36 pm

A three-alarm fire in south Sacramento this evening burned two houses, a detached garage and numerous vehicles on the lot of an auto repair shop.

Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Roberto Padilla said the fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. on the northbound side of Stockton Boulevard just north of Fruitridge Road. He said it is appears the fire started outside the detached garage, although investigators have not ruled the possibility that it began inside. Whipped by wind, the fire quickly spread.

Padilla said firefighters were hampered in attacking the fire by downed power lines.

No injuries were reported.

Padilla said the houses showed no signs of being occupied and appeared to have been abandoned.

Approximately a dozen cars in a lot at an auto repair shop caught fire, but the building housing the shop escaped damage. Padilla said he did not know whether any of the vehicles involved in the fire were at the shop for repairs or were junk cars used for parts.

The fire was contained about 7 p.m. and extinguished by 7:30 p.m., Padilla said.

He said Stockton Boulevard likely would remain closed to traffic between 21st and 17th avenues until about 10 p.m.
