Less-hot weather for Sacramento area after Monday’s swelter

The Sacramento area today is expected to experience a big cooling down, but given that highs yesterday clocked in at 106 degrees, it’ll still be hot.

Tuesday’s high is forecast to reach 95 degrees, just a few degrees above average for this time of year. To explain the cooling, the National Weather Service points to the eastward shift of a big high-pressure system that hung over north central California yesterday and the return of the Delta breeze.

The Delta breeze is also forecast to increase humidity today to around 25 percent, less dry than yesterday but not likely to be noticeable for most.

The Delta breeze will stick around for the rest of the week, keeping predicted highs at 94 degrees from Wednesday through Independence Day. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly over the weekend to reach a high of 97 degrees on Monday.

The 7-day forecast for the Sacramento area from the National Weather Service:
