UPDATE: Pocket-area family displaced after two-alarm fire destroys home

Published: Tuesday, Jul. 1, 2014 - 10:01 pm

A family of five was displaced by a fire that destroyed their Pocket area home this afternoon.

The fire was reported about 4 p.m. in the 600 block of Coriander Way, near Rush River Drive. Roberto Padilla, spokesman for the Sacramento Fire Department, said crews arrived to find heavy fire in the garage of a two-story house and called a second alarm. He said crews found the fire had spread throughout the house, which was deemed a total loss.

Padilla said the exterior of a neighboring house was scorched but not seriously damaged.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Padilla said investigators will focus on the garage and front of the house.

He said a mother and two children were in the home and were alerted by a neighbor knocking at the door, telling them that their garage was on fire. No injuries were reported.

Padilla said the family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
