UPDATE: Police: Suspect in midtown slaying knew victim, possibly headed for Mexico

Published: Tuesday, Jul. 1, 2014 - 10:01 pm

Sacramento police have identified 34-year-old Mohammad Joseph Khan as a suspect in the death of Kelsey Snyder, whose body was found in a midtown apartment Saturday.

Police said they have reason to believe that Khan is armed with a gun and has fled to Mexico.

Police responded to the 1600 block of 17th Street about 10 a.m. Saturday after Snyder’s body was discovered by a friend who went to check on her welfare after Snyder failed to respond to numerous phone calls and text messages.

Police said homicide detectives were summoned because Snyder’s body showed obvious signs of trauma.

Police said Khan and Snyder were believed to have been involved in a relationship, and the slaying was not a random act. They said no other people are believed to have been involved.

Family members said Monday that Snyder, 33, who also use her maiden name, Kelsey Kaiser, grew up in Stockton and had lived in Sacramento for about two years.

Sacramento police ask anyone with information regarding Khan’s whereabouts to call the Police Department’s dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-4357, or text a tip to 274637. Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous an may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
