The David Mayfield Parade
9 p.m. July 10
Sophia’s Thai Kitchen
If you refuse to participate in the call-and-response vocals of David Mayfield’s “Trapped Under the Ice,” he will know it – and he will call you out. He may also come out to the patio and dance with you. Or run across the street from Sophia’s and sing to Davis pedestrians. For one of the goofiest performers you’ll ever see — there’s not much he won’t do – Mayfield doesn’t let his relentless shtick distract from the warm and whimsical folk rock ditties spun by him and his affable band. Doors 8:30 p.m. 129 E St., Davis. $5. www.sophiasthaikitchen.com.
Art Mix: Hip-Hop
5 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 10
Crocker Art Museum
Andru Defeye’s “FLOW Sacramento” series is perhaps local hip-hop’s most exciting current happening, featuring vivacious New Orleans jazz-flavored beats as Element Brass Band backs a rotating cast of guest emcees and vocalists. A regular at the Press Club and Assembly, FLOW takes over the Crocker Art Museum for a performance as the centerpiece of a showcase evening of all-things hip-hop in conjunction with the Crocker’s current exhibit “African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era, and Beyond.” Also featured will be video, DIY beats and lyric-writing workshops, pop-up side performances throughout the gallery, and some art talks. 216 O St., Sacramento. $10. www.crockerartmuseum.org.
Erik Hanson’s Living Room Sessions
8 p.m. July 10
Time has come around for an installment of Erik Hanson’s Living Room Sessions series. Hanson (of the Foxtails) started the monthly series with the simple concept: Bring a vibe of friends playing in the living room to a public venue. He’s joined every second Thursday by a couple of local songwriters (this week, Peter Barker and Matt Woodcheck) to play some originals, tell some stories, engage in a little banter and just see what happens. 1901 10th St., Sacramento. Free. www.theoldironsides.com.
Looking ahead: Hot Buttered Rum. July 25 at Harlow’s
Kind enough to regularly treat Sacramento to a couple of shows a year, Hot Buttered Rum is the Bay Area’s most popular bluegrass outfit – and dare we say the most popular in California as well? 2708 J St., Sacramento. $15. www.harlows.com.
