Elk Grove SWAT officers find domestic violence suspect in car trunk

Published: Wednesday, Jul. 2, 2014 - 5:34 pm

Elk Grove SWAT officers have taken a 32-year-old man into custody after finding him in the trunk of a car at a home where he had holed up Wednesday afternoon.

Police spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said Elk Grove resident Miquel Duran was found shortly after 7 p.m. in a vehicle in the garage of the home in the 8800 block of Silverberry Avenue, off Elk Grove Florin Road.

Duran, who was wanted on warrants for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon, had refused to come out of the residence.

Officers learned about 3 p.m. that Duran might be at the home, Trim said. Arriving at the home, officers determined that he was inside, but Duran refused their requests to come out of the house.

Trim said occupants of the home left the residence, leaving Duran alone inside. Trim said that while Duran was not a resident, he had “an association” with the home. Trim declined to further explain the association.

Officers had visual contact with the suspect during the approximately four-hour standoff, Trim said. SWAT officers entered the residence after using a robot to search the house and the garage.

No other homes in the neighborhood were evacuated, but Silverberry Avenue was blocked and residents were not allowed to enter the street during the incident.
