A Rocklin woman and a man from Mountain View entered pleas of not guilty Wednesday in San Francisco to federal charges of money laundering and using the Internet to promote prostitution.
Annemarie Lanoce, 40, and Eric Omuro, 53, are accused in a grand jury indictment of operating two websites sfredbook.com and myredbook.com to facilitate prostitution in the San Francisco Bay Area and other locations on the West Coast.
Myredbook.com purported to provide Escort, Massage, and Strip Club Reviews, according to federal authorities. Instead, they allege, the site hosted advertisements for prostitutes, complete with explicit photos, lewd physical descriptions, menus of sexual services, hourly and nightly rates, and customer reviews of the prostitutes services.
Also on Wednesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Nathanael M. Cousins modified conditions of pretrial release previously imposed on the pair. They were ordered back to court July 17 for a check on the status of property to be posted as security for their appearance bonds.
Lanoce and Omuro were previously barred by the court from the Internet. Modifications by Cousins on Wednesday allow them access to the Internet for specified uses agreed to by prosecutors, but prohibit them from websites on a list submitted to the judge by prosecutors.
In the Sacramento region, myredbook gained notoriety in May in connection with the arrest of Orville Moe Fleming, a former California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection battalion chief. The focus of a statewide manhunt for two weeks, Fleming is charged with killing his live-in girlfriend, Sarah Douglas, 26, on May 1 in their south Sacramento County home.
Investigators said Fleming had contact with many escorts he met through myredbook. Authorities also said Douglas was working as a paid escort when she met Fleming two years ago.
